Drug Class and Mechanism of Action of Midamor

Midamor is a potassium sparing diuretic. It acts by removing sodium and water through kidney while retaining potassium.

Therapeutic Uses of Midamor

Midamor is a diuretic which is used in prevention of re absorption of excess of sodium and prevention of potassium loss.

Direction of use of Midamor

Use Midamor as per direction of your doctor. If you have any doubts about it ask your doctor. Midamor is taken by mouth on full stomach. It may cause excess urine production by the kidneys, especially at the beginning of therapy. To avoid disturbance of sleep due to excess urine try to take Midamor before 6 in the evening.

If You Miss a Dose of Midamor

If you are taking Midamor regularly and miss a dose of it, than take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose (because you miss it for long time) than skip the missed dose and continue taking it as regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses of Midamor at the same time.

How to Store Midamor

Midamor should be stored at room temperature (68 to 77 degrees F or 20 to 25 degrees C). It should be stored away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Keep it in a tightly closed container, but do not store the container in the bathroom. Keep Midamor out of reach of children.

More Information About Midamor

If you do not get any symptomatic relief or there is worsening of symptoms than you should consult your doctor. Midamor should never be shared with other people and it should be used by the patient for whom it is prescribed.

Precautions to be Taken While Taking Midamor

Do not use Midamor if you have any of the following medical problems and consult your doctor immediately:

  • If you have allergy to Midamor or any of the ingredients used in making it.
  • If you are not able to pass urine due to any problem.
  • If you are suffering from high blood potassium levels and kidney problems due to diabetes (diabetic nephropathy) or other severe kidney disease.
  • If you are taking any potassium supplementation or if you are taking any potassium sparing diuretics like aldosterone, triamterene or spironolactone etc.

Important notes about Midamor:

  • Midamor may causes drowsiness and dizziness and these side effects can be more prominent if you are taking alcohol or certain medication along with it. So you should use Midamor with caution. You should not drive or perform other works that are risky and need constant monitoring and attention, till you are sure that Midamor do not cause drowsiness and dizziness in you.
  • You should ask your doctor or other health care provider before taking any salt supplementation or any product that has potassium in it.
  • Do not use Midamor in children as the safety and effectiveness of the medicine is not confirmed and established in children.
  • Elderly people are more sensitive to the effects of Midamor and it should be used with caution in them.
  • Lab tests like serum electrolytes (mainly blood potassium) and medical tests like blood pressure monitoring should be done regularly while taking Midamor.
  • Pregnancy: If you are a woman and pregnant do not take Midamor. If you become pregnant while taking Midamor, consult your doctor immediately to discuss about the risks and benefits of using Midamor during pregnancy.
  • Breast feeding: It is not clear if Midamor is secreted in the breast milk. Do not breast feed while taking Midamor as it may cause harm to your baby.

Possible Adverse Effects of Midamor

  • Common and minor side effects of Midamor are nausea, headache, diarrhea, weakness, loss of appetite etc. You should get medical attention if these common side effects of Midamor become persistent or bothersome.
  • If you get any serious side effects of Midamor you should get immediate medical attention. The serious side effects are severe allergic reactions manifested by rash, hives, itching, difficulty in breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; dry mouth, excessive thirst, slowed heart rate, unusual muscle weakness, unusual tiredness, vomiting etc.
