Drug Class and Mechanism of Action of Stromectol
Stromectol is a semisynthetic, anti-helmintic drug. It is given orally. Stromectol (Ivermectin) is derived from the avermectins, a class of highly active broad-spectrum, anti-parasitic agents isolated from the fermentation products of Streptomyces avermitilis.
Therapeutic Uses of Stromectol
Stromectol is used for treatment of worm infestations (susceptible worms).
Direction of use of Stromectol
Take Stromectol by mouth, with a glass of water, as directed by your doctor. You may need to take additional dose of Stromectol in future depending on your condition and response to therapy.
If You Miss a Dose of Stromectol
If you miss a dose of Stromectol, you should take it as soon as you can remember it. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Never take more than required (2 doses at a time) without consulting your doctor.
How to Store Stromectol
Stromectol should be stored at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C). Store it away from light, moisture and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep it out of reach of children. Do not store it in bathroom.

Do not share Stromectol with others and it should be taken by the person for whom it is prescribed. Laboratory and/or medical tests like stool examinations for ova and cyst of the worms should be performed to monitor your progress and for side effects. Keep all medical appointments.
Precautions to be Taken While Taking Stromectol
- You should inform your doctor if you have allergy to Stromectol, before you start taking it. You should also inform your doctor if you have allergy to any other medicine or any other substance.
- Inform your doctor about your medical history, especially about immune system problems (if you are suffering from HIV infection), breathing problems (asthma), or recent foreign travel (Loa-loa endemic areas).
- Stromectol may cause dizziness or drowsiness; you should use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery that need constant attention and monitoring. Limit intake of alcoholic beverages. To minimize dizziness and drowsiness, get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying position.
- Stromectol should be used only when clearly indicated during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits of using Stromectol during pregnancy, with your doctor. This medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast feeding.
Possible Adverse Effects of Stromectol
- Nausea, bloating, diarrhea, headache, lightheadedness, or muscle aches are the common side effects of Stromectol. If any of these common side effects become persistent or bothersome or worsen, you should get medical attention.
- Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any serious and unlikely side effects of Stromectol occur: dizziness upon standing, fast heartbeat, chest pain, change in the appearance of the eye, swelling of the eyes, redness of the eyes; fever, joint pain, swollen or tender glands (lymph nodes), swelling in the arms, hands, or feet.
- A very serious allergic reaction to this drug may occur (though it is very unlikely), but bet immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction are rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing, tightness in the chest etc.
