Tetracycline
Drug Class and Mechanism of Action of Sumycin
Sumycin is a tetracycline antibiotic. It acts by slowing the growth of sensitive bacteria by interfering with the production of proteins that are required by the bacteria to grow and synthesize cell wall. Slowing the growth of bacteria allows the body's defense mechanisms to destroy them.
Therapeutic Uses of Sumycin
Sumycin is used for treatment of infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to it.
Direction of use of Sumycin
Use Sumycin as per direction of your doctor. Read the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Take Sumycin by mouth on an empty stomach preferably 1 hour before meal or 2 hours after eating. Take Sumycin with a full glass of water (a glass is approximately 250 ml). You should not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Sumycin.
If you are also taking antacids (containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium), preparations containing bismuth, iron, zinc, or sodium bicarbonate; or calcium rich foods (like milk, dairy products, dates, calcium-enriched juices etc.), do not take them 2 to 3 hours before or 2 to 3 hours after taking Sumycin.
