Aceon

Perindopril

Drug Class and Mechanism of Action

Aceon is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor. Aceon acts by blocking ACE that is responsible for narrowing of blood vessels. Aceon also prevent sodium and water retention by kidneys. Blood can flow more easily due to relaxation of blood vessels and heart can pump blood more efficiently as there is less resistance.

Therapeutic Uses of the Product Aceon

Congestive Heart Failure (CCF) and hypertension are the major therapeutic uses of Aceon. Aceon can prevent heart attack in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).

Direction of Use

Usual starting dose of Aceon is 2 mgs and gradually adjusted (increased) tll blood pressure is controlled or to a maximum of 16 mgs per day. If more than 2 mgs is given per day, it can be given as single dose or in divided doses.

Dose of Aceon, if Missed

If dose of Aceon is missed than it should be takes when remembered. Never take 2 doses together to compensate for the missed dose. If dose is missed for long time that it is almost time to take the next dose than skip the missed dose and take as usual.

How to Store

Aceon is stored at room temperature and in dry container. Aceon should be stored away from reach of children and away from sun and moisture.

More Information About

Aceon is teratogenic (can cause damage or malformation of fetus) drug during last 2 trimester of pregnancy. Stop Aceon when you are pregnant and consult your doctor.

Precautions to be Taken While Taking Aceon

Cough is one of the common side effects of ACE inhibitors and stopping of drug gives prompt relief from cough. Aceon can impair thinking and reaction. Be careful while driving and doing other risky works.

Alcohol is prohibited during Aceon therapy as it can cause fall in blood pressure and can aggravate side effects of Aceon. Common salt substitutes should not be used while taking Aceon. It can reduce body immunity and lower resistance to infection. Avoid contact with people suffering from cold or any other infection. Wash your hands properly before touching eyes or inside of nose.

Adverse Effects of Aceon

Possible adverse effects of Aceon are cough, hypotension, headache, dizziness, weakness, sore throat, URTI (upper respiratory tract infection), generalized weakness, pain in legs, nausea, vomiting.

Almost all the adverse effects are mild and usually disappear if therapy is continued. Even if the side effects are mild and self limiting, consult your doctor when side effects develop. Only your doctor can decide if treatment should be continued in presence of side effects.
