Drug Class and Mechanism of Action of Voltaren
Voltaren is NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) drug. Voltaren acts by reducing hormones that is responsible for inflammation and pain in the body.
Therapeutic Uses of Voltaren
Voltaren is used for treatment of pain or inflammation caused by arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. It is also used in treating musculoskeletal pain. Voltaren may also be used for other medical conditions than those listed in medication guide as determined by your doctor.
Direction of use of Voltaren
Take Voltaren as per direction of your doctor. Voltaren should be taken on full stomach to reduce gastric irritation and ulcer (one of the major side effects of Voltaren is ulcer). If you have any question about how to take Voltaren, ask your doctor or other health care provider.
If You Miss a Dose of Voltaren
If you miss a dose of Voltaren, take it as soon as you can remember it. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose of Voltaren and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at a time to compensate for the missed dose.
How to Store Voltaren
Voltaren should be stored at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). But storage at temperatures of 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) for brief period of time is permitted. It should be stored away from heat, moisture and light in a tightly closed container. Keep Voltaren out of the reach of children and away from pets. Do not store Voltaren in your bathroom.

Precautions to be Taken While Taking Voltaren
Do not use Voltaren if you are suffering from any of the following medical problems and consult your doctor immediately:
- If you are allergic to any of the ingredients used in Voltaren.
- If you have had a severe allergic reaction (symptoms of allergic reaction are severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, dizziness etc.) to any other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib) or aspirin.
Important notes about Voltaren:
- Voltaren may cause dizziness or blurring of vision and these effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Voltaren with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks which need constant monitoring and attention until you know how you react to Voltaren.
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Do not take Voltaren if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant, consult your doctor to discuss the benefits and risks of using Voltaren while you are pregnant. It is not known if Voltaren is found in breast milk, but you should consult your doctor before you breast-feed.
- Voltaren should not be used in children as safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.
- Before you start to take any new medicine, check the label to see if it has Voltaren or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) medicine in it too. If it does or if you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible Adverse Effects of Voltaren
- Burning or stinging, stomach upset or stomach irritation, nausea, discharge; eye redness, irritation, itching, etc. are minor and common side effects of Voltaren. If any of theses minor and common side effects become troublesome or bothersome consult your doctor.
- Get immediate medical attention if you experience any serious but uncommon side effects of Voltaren. Serious side effects of Voltaren are severe allergic reaction (the symptoms of severe allergic reaction are rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); stomach ulcer; blurring of vision, distortion of vision, eye infection, swelling or redness of eyelids, sensitivity to glare or light etc.
