Acomplia is appetite suppressant drug. Acomplia acts on CB-1 receptors that are present all parts of the body. Acomplia acts on these receptors which acts on food intake and suppress appetite. Acomplia acts on organs like liver, intestine, muscles and adipose tissue and affects fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Weight loss takes place as the food intake goes down to a large extent.

Direction of use of Acomplia

Normal dose of Acomplia is 20 mgs one pill daily in the morning on empty stomach. The pill is swallowed as whole with lukewarm water.

Dose of Acomplia, if Missed

Take missed dose of Acomplia as soon as it is remembered. Do not take 2 tablets together to make up the missed dose. If the dose is missed for long time and the next dose is near than skip the missed dose and take next dose as normal.

How to Store Acomplia

The pills should be stored in tightly closed container at room temperature (20-25 degree Centigrade or 68-77 degree Fahrenheit), away from moisture and reach of children.

Acomplia is used mainly in European Union countries like Germany, Finland, Denmark and U.K. It is less commonly used in other parts of the world.

Precautions to be Taken While Taking

The following precautions should be taken while taking Acomplia:

  • Acomplia should not be taken without consulting a doctor and doctor's instruction should be followed strictly.
  • As Acomplia is metabolized in liver, patients with hepatic impairment should consult his/her doctor before taking Acomplia.
  • Acomplia is not advisable in pregnant women as it can cause birth defects in the unborn baby. Acomplia should not be taken by breast feeding mothers also as it can pass to breast milk though it is not yet clearly proved.

Possible Adverse Effects

The common side effects of Acomplia are nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, sleeplessness, disorientation, anxiety, psychosis, hallucination. Heart and kidney damage, high blood pressure, general weakness, dyspepsia are also seen as side effects. Heart attack, cerebro vascular accidents, palpitation and eating beyond one's capacity and appetite are also seen.
