Drug Class and Mechanism of Action
It is anti scabies drug. It acts by killing scabies mite (Sarcoptes scabiei).
Therapeutic Uses of the Product
Acticin is used therapeutically for treating scabies. It is very effective in treating scabies.
Direction of use of Acticin
Acticin is used as follows or as directed by your doctor:
- Massage Acticin thoroughly into the skin from head (below chin) to toes. Applying or massaging of Acticin into face or scalp is not required except for children and elderly patients.
- Wash off the medicine properly by bathing after 8-14 hours.
- Sometimes there may be itching after treatment, but it is not due to treatment failure. But if live mites (Sarcoptes scabiei) are seen after treatment, than re-treatment is required in the same manner.
- Acticin is for external use only.
Always consult your doctor or health care provider if you have any doubt in using Acticin.
Dose of Acticin, if Missed
As Acticin generally used as single application, the chance that it will be missed is absent. It is either used or not used; it can not be missed for one dose.
How to Store
Acticin is stored at 15-25 degree Celsius or 59-77 degree Fahrenheit. It should be stored at dry, dark and cool area. Keep Acticin away from reach of children.

Acticin should be used by the person for whom it is prescribed. It should not be shared with others.
Precautions to be Taken While Taking
Acticin should never be used if one is allergic to it.
Consult your doctor if any of the following condition arises:
- Acticin is for external use only and should not be used near the eyes or in any exposed/damaged or bruised skin. If Acticin comes into contact with eyes wash it off properly with clean water immediately. Do not allow Acticin to come in contact with nose, mouth or exposed genitals. Contact with mucous membrane or bruised skin can cause irritation in that area.
- Acticin is not recommended during pregnancy and breast feeding. If you become pregnant during use of Acticin, consult your doctor, because you have to consider risk, benefit ratio carefully during pregnancy. It is not clear if Acticin passes to breast milk after topical application, but it is not recommended during breast feeding. Stop breast feeding if you are using Acticin.
- Acticin is contraindicated in infants below 2 months of age. Safety and effectiveness in them is not clear.
Possible Adverse Effects
Itching, burning sensation, redness, swelling and stinging are the main side effects of Acticin and you should consult your doctor or health care provider immediately if you develop any of the above side effects. Allergy and hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of Acticin are serious adverse effects. Allergy can be identified by skin rash, breathing difficulty, itching, and tightness in chest, swelling in mouth, tongue, lips and face. If you are getting allergy to Acticin seek medical attention immediately in the emergency department in a hospital.
