Drug Class and Mechanism of Action of Clomid
Clomid is an ovulatory stimulant drug. It acts by helping to produce hormones in greater quantity that cause ovaries to release 1 or more eggs during ovulation.
Therapeutic Uses of Clomid
Clomid is used for treatment of female infertility. It may also be used for certain medical conditions as determined by your doctor.
Direction of use of Clomid
Use Clomid as per direction of your doctor. Read the label on the medicine carefully for exact dosing instructions or take Clomid as follows:
- Clomid is to be by mouth with food or without food.
- Properly timed sexual intercourse is important for obtaining good results with this drug. Ovulation usually occurs 5 to 10 days after a dose of Clomid and sexual intercourse need to take place during that time.
If You Miss a Dose of Clomid
If you miss a dose of Clomid, you should take it as soon as you can remember it. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose of Clomid and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at a time for missing a dose of it.
How to Store Clomid
Clomid should be stored at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) can be done. Store it away from heat, moisture, and light in a tightly closed container. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Clomid out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Clomid is to be used only by the patient (female) for whom it is prescribed. It should not be shared with others. If you have any question about Clomid, you should ask your doctor.
Precautions to be Taken While Taking Clomid
Do not use Clomid if you have any of the following medical conditions mentioned below and consult your doctor immediately:
- If you are allergic to any of the ingredient of Clomid.
- If you are suffering from any abnormal vaginal bleeding.
- If you are pregnant.
- If you have or have ever had blockage of blood vessels due to clots or any other reason in the legs, lungs, or other parts of the body.
- If you have ovarian cysts (small growths on the ovaries) or enlargement of ovaries not due to polycystic ovarian syndrome.
- If you have any liver problem, thyroid gland problem, adrenal gland problem, or a brain lesion like pituitary gland tumor.
Important notes on Clomid:
- Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks (which require constant attention and monitoring like operating heavy machinery) until you know how you react to Clomid.
- Enlargement of the ovaries may occur during or shortly after taking Clomid.
- You should consult your doctor or other health care provider if you experience any stomach pain, pelvic pain, weight gain, stomach enlargement or discomfort while taking Clomid.
- Pregnancy with more than 1 fetus (multiple pregnancies like twins) is possible if you are taking Clomid. You should discuss the potential complications and hazards of multiple pregnancies if you take Clomid.
- Lab tests, like pregnancy tests and other tests, may be performed before and during taking Clomid. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
- Pregnancy: Do not use Clomid if you are pregnant.
Possible Adverse Effects of Clomid
- Blurring of vision or any other vision problems (spots or flashes); dizziness, nausea, headache, vomiting, hot flashes flushing; breast tenderness, enlarged breasts; enlargement of the ovaries, lightheadedness, mood change, pelvic pain, bloating, stomach pain etc. are the common and mild side effects of Clomid. If any of the minor and common side effects of Clomid become persistent you should consult your doctor.
- Get immediate medical help if you experience any of the severe and uncommon side effects of Clomid. The severe side effects of Clomid are severe allergic reaction (the symptoms of severe allergic reaction are skin rash, hives, itching, difficulty in breathing, tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue etc.); increased risk of cancer of the ovaries; over stimulation of the ovaries (which may cause multiple pregnancies like twins); spontaneous abortion etc.
