Drug Class and Mechanism of Action
Alavert belongs to antihistaminic group of medicine. Antihistaminic reduce natural chemical histamine that causes allergic and hypersensitivity reactions that causes itching, running nose, sneezing and lacrimation.
Therapeutic Uses of Alavert
Alavert is used in the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and other forms of allergy that causes watery eyes, running nose, itching, sneezing, itching in the throat etc.
Direction of use of Alavert
Alavert is taken by mouth on full stomach. Tablet is swallowed as a whole and not crushed, broken or chewed before taking. If you have any question about how to take Alavert, consult your health care provider.
Dose of Alavert, if Missed
If you are taking Alavert regularly and missed a dose than, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose than skip the missed dose and take it as regular dose. Do not take 2 doses together.
How to Store Alavert
Alavert is stored at room temperature i.e. between 68 and 77 degree Fahrenheit or 20-25 degree Centigrade. Alavert is stored away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children and in dark color container with tightly closed lid.

If there is no improvement in your condition even after taking Alavert consult your doctor. Do not share Alavert with anybody and it should be used by the person for whom it is prescribed.
Precautions to be Taken While Taking Alavert
Do not take Alavert if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of it and contact your doctor if you are allergic to it immediately.
Important notes:
- If you become pregnant while taking Alavert consult your doctor regarding the risks and benefits of using Alavert during pregnancy. If you are breast feeding consult your doctor because Alavert is found in breast milk. Discuss about the risks to the feeding baby.
- Alavert can cause drowsiness especially at high dose, so do not drive while you are on Alavert or do risky works. Do not take 2 doses of Alavert together.
- Alavert interfere in tests for skin allergy. Consult your doctor if you have to undergo skin allergy test while taking Alavert. You may have to stop it few days before doing skin allergy test.
- Alavert should not be used in children below 2 years of age because safety is not established in children. Consult with your pediatrician before giving Alavert to children.
- Alavert contain sodium it it and if you are on salt restricted diet you have to count the amount of sodium Alavert contain while calculating daily sodium intake.
Possible Adverse Effects of Alavert
Consult your doctor if you have difficulty in breathing, tightness in chest, swelling of lips, face etc. Consult your doctor or health care provider if you have any of the serious adverse effects listed below:
- Fast and irregular pulse rate.
- Convulsions or seizure.
- Jaundice (yellow skin and conjunctiva).
Less serious side effects are as follows:
- Headache
- Blurring of vision, redness of eyes
- Loose motion or diarrhea, stomach ache
- Tiredness, drowsiness
- Dry mouth, hoarseness of voice, nose bleeding or epistaxis.
