Drug Class and Mechanism of Action of FML Forte
FML Forte is a corticosteroid medicine. It acts by reducing the inflammation. The exact mechanism of FML Forte is still unknown.
Therapeutic Uses of FML Forte
FML Forte is generally used in the treatment of ocular inflammation and inflammation of eyelids.
Direction of use of FML Forte
Use FML Forte as your doctor tells you or follow the following instruction for use of FML Forte:
- Shake FML Forte suspension well before use.
- Before you use FML Forte you have to wash your hand with soap water. Tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid down with your index finger to form a pouch in the eye. Put a drop of FML Forte into the pouch and close the eyelid gently. After applying the medicine close the inside corner of your eye by pressing it with a finger for about 2 minutes so that medicine can not be drained. Use a soft and clean tissue to remove excess medicine that may be there around the eye and do not touch your eye. To prevent contamination you should be careful not to touch the applicator tip to any surface and even the eyes. Wash your hands properly to remove any medicine that may be on them. Keep the medicine container tightly closed.
- If you are using more than one type of eye drops or eye medicine there should be a gap of at least few minutes between their applications.
- If you are using FML Forte do not wear soft contact lenses. Sterilize the contact lenses properly before using them and consult your doctor if you have any doubt about them.
If you Miss a Dose of FML Forte
If you miss a dose of FML Forte use it as soon as possible. If you forget to put a drop of FML Forte for long time and it is almost time for the next application, than skip the missed application and go to regular schedule as usual. Do not use double dose in a single application.
How to Store FML Forte
FML Forte should be stored at room temperature (between 68 and 77 degrees F or 20 and 25 degrees C). Short duration storage between 59 and 86 degrees F or 15 and 30 degrees C is permitted. Keep FML Forte out of reach of children. It should be stored away from heat, moisture and sunlight.

Precautions to be Taken While Taking FML Forte
Do not use FML Forte if you have any of the following problems and consult your doctor immediately:
- If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of FML Forte.
- If you are suffering from viral eye infection like herpes of eye, untreated eye infections (pus or any discharge from eye), fungal or tuberculosis infection of the eye or general viral infections like vaccinia or chickenpox infection.
Important notes to remember:
- FML Forte can cause blurring of vision. You should not drive, or operate any heavy machinery or do any risky works which require constant monitoring till you are sure that FML Forte does not cause blurring of vision in you.
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding: do not use FML Forte if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant during use of FML Forte, consult your doctor about the risks. It is not clear if FML Forte is present in breast milk, but you should not breast feed your baby if you are using FML Forte. Consult your doctor about the risks to your baby while using FML Forte.
- Use of FML Forte in children below 2 years of age requires extreme caution as its safety and effectiveness in children below 2 years is not yet established.
- If your condition does not improve within 2 days or if it becomes worse, consult your doctor immediately.
- Lab tests and other tests like intraocular pressure should be checked regularly to monitor the progress and also to find out if there are any side effects.
Possible Adverse Effects
- Consult your doctor if you have any of the common side effects become bothersome or persist for long duration. The common side effects are blurring of vision, change in taste, burning of eyes etc.
- Seek medical attention immediately if you get any of the serious side effects like severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); prolonged and continued blurring of vision; pain in the eye, any discharge from eye; redness, swelling, irritation in the eye etc.
