Overweight
Among such overweight causes as inherited ones and endocrine disorders social and psychological factors are quite important as well. In most cases the overweight is caused by the improper lifestyle:
- constant overeating
- irrational nutrition
- the lack of physical activity
- chronic stress and etc.
The way we eat. Against the inherited causes of the obesity one of its main reasons is the overeating. There are a great number of the families that almost worship to the food. Especially it happens at the weekends when people eat a lot and almost without a stop. And the tradition to have considerable supper after a work day is kept as a rule; furthermore it is followed by constant snacks while watching TV. For instance, some people may not even notice when they have already eaten a half of bread stick, a box of candies or biscuits and something similar and equally useless. Furthermore it also used to offer emphatically food and persuade each other to have another piece of the food and etc. This turns into a real way of taking care about each other.
Watching TV makes you eat without even noticing the process of eating.
They are often talking about inherited obesity. However the fact that the inheritance is not the matter is proved by the number of the scientific researches. For instance, there are many cases when all members of the family experience obesity, however all these persons have no blood relationships between them (a husband and a wife, their mothers, adopted children). It is revealed fact that people with excessive weight often have pets that are also suffering from obesity.
Thus not the obesity but the disposition to it is what we can inherit. But the result is up to the every individual.
Appetite. Children that grow up in the families used to eat a lot experience the disorder of the nerve centers functional condition; these centers are responsible for the appetite and sense of saturation. As a result several people are more often hungry than the others. They eat more than their body needs as the sense of saturation appears too late.
Here we should dwell into the point of the question discussed.
The alteration of the gustatory sensitivity. Many families are used to cook too sweet or salty foods. Thus the children get accustomed to too sweet foods and the threshold of gustatory sensitivity to sweet foods is got increased as a result. Finally it turns out that when the adult that drinks the tea with one teaspoon of sugar thinks the tea is not sweet enough. To make this tea sweet one he or she should add there three or five teaspoons of the sugar. And the sugarless tea is seemed quite tasteless and uneatable. The same situation may be with the salt. Some people add salt even without tasting the food at first.
I have checked it myself and tried to drink tea without sugar at all. Of course it seems that it is tasteless without a sugar at first. However in some time you get accustomed to this and feel no discomfort at all. Tea doesn’t mean the sugar only.
The same happens with the salt. As the excess of the salt is quite harmful (for instance it may contribute to the increased arterial pressure) I decided not to salt the food at all. Many products we can by at the shop possess certain amount of the salt already thus there will be no lack of it. Furthermore, our body is able to regulate the balance of sodium and potassium ions thus in case you will cease to add salt into your foods you will only get profit from this.
Insufficient awareness. One of the obesity prevalence causes is the insufficient awareness of the rational nutrition rules. Too less people know how to control the amount of the food by counting the calories, what products are high-calorific and what are not and which nutritive materials they contain.
Today there is enough related information in the internet.
Prejudices. Furthermore prejudices that are wrong ideas in the mind of people are quite prevailed also. For instance, plump child is the symbol of the health and the full-bodied adult shows its prosperity, reliability, social achievements, authority. (Here we should note that the prevalence of the obesity in different parts of our country is up to the fashion, beauty ideals, appearance stereotype. The idea what kind of person is considered to be a beautiful or handsome and attractive one may be quite different among different social and ethnic groups of the people.) There are a lot of fallacious ideas about different foods that are sometimes turns to be a real nonsense. For instance the idea that the sugar is useful for the health (it is supposedly good for the brain, liver and bones) leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to eat as much sugar as it ii possible.
I have seen such cases. The way of people think is as follows – as the brain uses glucose than it is useful to eat sugar as it contains glucose and fructose.
Negative emotional conditions. A constant emotional overexertion (anxiety, depression, and dissatisfaction) is quite common cause of the excessive weight as it leads to artificially increased appetite and obtrusive overeating that is quite difficult to overcome. There are people that start to eat more when experience depression or emotional exertion. It is similar to excessive smoking of the other in the same conditions.
It is quite correct. In case the food is the one of the way to overcome the stress for you than you are in the risk group and probably have already certain overweight problems.
