The babies born by the women that get excessive weight within the pregnancy period are more disposed to excessive body weight within the rest of the life.

Recently there appeared many arguments that the weight is up to genetics influence.

A research was worked out that implied the observance of genetic factors influence onto the pregnancy of more than 500 thousands of women. The researches issued in the Lancet magazine at August 5th showed the dependency between the women weight gain within the pregnancy period and their babies’ weight at the birth.

A new research hold by Janet Currie from Columbian University and David Ludwig from the Boston child hospital supposes that excessive weight gain during the pregnancy may increase prolonged risk of overweight in children as the birth weight is connected with Body Weight Index (BWI) in the late ages. Currie said that “Nowadays there is increase in newborn body weight that will cause many people to suffer of excessive weight in adult period”. She has added: “There is no necessity for the women in increasing her weight over the 18 kg during the pregnancy period”.

In 2009 the Institute of Medicine reviewed the principles of conduction the pregnancy and weight gain stating that the normal body weight is the body weight index from 18.6 up to 24.9 with addition of 11-16 kg during the pregnancy. Women with the BWI below 18.5 should gain 13-18 kg when those women with excessive weight and BWI from 25 to 29.9 should gain 7-11 kg. Women suffering of obesity with BWI over 30 are recommended to gain only 5-9 kg.

More than one third of the women with normal weight and over the half with excessive weight and obesity gained more than it was recommended. The National statistics center data for the healthcare say that ever more number of the women gains over 18 kg and more within monocyesis.
